Plea Agreement Reached, Man Sentenced for 2025 Carroll County Killing

The case of a man charged with murder ended this week with a plea agreement and a sentence imposed.

According to court documents, the plea agreement was entered on Wednesday in Carroll County Circuit Court for Thomas Blewett, who pleaded guilty to negligent homicide and two counts of tampering in the July 2025 death of Alexzander Bernhardt.

Blewett had been charge with 1st Degree Murder for the killing, but the plea agreement reduced the charge to negligent homicide carrying a sentence of six years. Two charges of tampering with evidence will bring the total sentence to 18 years. 

Blewett is also responsible for courts costs of $1,440 according to the online filing. 

Blewett sentence was in relation to the incident last year in which he admitted to shotting and killing Bernhardt then attempted to cover up the crime and dumped Bernhardt's body on a county road north of Oak Grove.
