Brief Break In Heat to Start Week

The heatwave that has impacted the Ozarks will take a brief break to begin the week.

The National Weather Service has Extreme Heat Warnings and Heat Advisories in effect until this evening with a part of northern Arkansas, including the Harrison area, having the Heat Advisory extended into Monday. 

Forecasters do call for a chance of rain in parts of the Lakes Region on Monday which will lead to a brief cooldown before temperatures are back to around 100 by midweek. 

Another system will bring temperatures back down into the 90s by the end of the week according to forecasters. 

The statement released by the NWS says to continue to drink plenty of fluids, stay in an air-conditioned room, stay out of the sun, and check up on relatives and neighbors.

Do not leave young children and pets in unattended vehicles. Car interiors will reach lethal temperatures in a matter of minutes.

Take extra precautions when outside. Wear lightweight and loose fitting clothing. Try to limit strenuous activities to early morning or evening. Take action when you see symptoms of heat exhaustion and heat stroke.
