Greatest Story Continues to be Told in Eureka Springs

An Ozarks Landmark that was almost shutdown 14 years ago continues to share the "Greatest Story Ever Told" several nights a week.

Kent Butler provides an update on The Great Passion Play in Eureka Springs during a recent interview on KHOZ's "Around the Table" program. Butler, who as been a part of the show for over 20 years, recapped the time in which the show nearly shutdown due to $2.7 million in debt but was saved from foreclosure by a group that was able to raise money to keep it open. Those debts were retired in 2023.

Butler adds that the show went through a production overhaul last season which included new sound equipment and lighting and a new musical score from the Budapest Orchestra.

Butler says he has been amazed on how the play continues to impact people's lives, including younger people seeing the story played out for the first time.

The Great Passion Play is running Tuesday, Friday, and Saturday with shows going into November.

Butler also talked about the other programs that have developed including their intern and mission programs during the interview which can be found on the Around the Table Facebook Page.
