Branson Holds off Forsyth for Tournament Title

The championship game of the 65th Forsyth Boys Basketball Tournament Saturday went down to the wire and played out much as the Friday games for Branson and Forsyth.

The Pirates withstood a furious Panther rally to take a 65-62 win in the title game after having to hold off a Lebanon rally in Friday's Pool Play game to earn a berth in the title game. Likewise, the Panthers had fallen behind Carl Junction by double digits and rallied Friday for the win. This time however, the Panthers were not able to get the lead late leading to the Pirate win.

Branson's Griffith Mehrhoff was named the tournament MVP and scored 26 points to lead the Pirates in the title game with Ben Boyer leading Forsyth with 16 points. Other All-Tournament team members include Heston Toombs for Branson along with Chris Halbrook and Cooper Lais from Forsyth.

In other tournament games, Carl Junction pulled away from Lebanon to take third place 66-44 while Hollister had a huge second half leading the Tigers to a 72-29 win in the fifth place game over the Missouri Warriors Home School team.
