The filing deadline for taxes is today.
Federal and state income taxes need to be filed and paid by the end of the day to avoid a penalty. The return must be postmarked or electronically filed before midnight tonight to meet the deadline.
According to the Internal Revenue Service website, filers that need and extension before filing should make the request before midnight but are also reminded that it does not extend the time for payment of taxes.
IRS Officials remind taxpayers that paying as much as possible today will help lessen the penalty for late payments.
