A Lakes Region School takes home the Grand Prize in a contest through the Missouri Department of Transportation.
According to a release from MODOT, Judy Hopper and her students at Spokane High School takes home the top prize in the annual "No MOre Trash" Contest, conducted annually by MODOT to bring awareness of the importance of keeping the state's roads trash free. The contest encourages school districts to enter a contest to decorate a trash can to raise awareness about and discourage littering.
The Spokane Students entry was “Kraken Down on Trash!”
“We wanted to help remind people not to throw trash everywhere, and that led to a lot of ideas,” Hopper said in a MODOT Press Release. “When we landed on the kraken and his arms collecting trash, we felt that was the one to catch people’s eye. We are very excited to have won the grand prize and grateful for the opportunity to contribute to the cause of ‘No MOre Trash!’”
MODOT Officials presented checks last week to the school district, $200 for the category win as well as $600 and a trophy as the grand prize winner.
The trash can will be part of a display at the MODOT Highway Gardens at the Missouri State Fair in Sedalia in August.
