Snow and Cold Weather Hits Lakes Region

Two to three inches of snow has fallen in the Lakes Region with some higher amounts in the hills of northern Arkansas after a system moved through dumping snow in the region.

The snow began falling just after Noon Sunday with the streets becoming covered after a short period of time. Though snowplows have been out most of the evening and overnight, most major roads are mostly covered while secondary roads are completely covered.

A light round of snow is expected today before ending this afternoon with a chance of some cloud clearing before evening.

Meanwhile, temperatures remain cold with high temperatures this afternoon in the low teens with wind chills between 15 and 20 below zero possible.

Wind Chill Advisories are in effect for the entire area through the day while a Winter Weather Advisory remains in effect through the morning in Northern Arkansas.

While several schools are already off today either because they usually don’t have classes on Monday or due to the Martin Luther King, Jr. Holiday, a few schools that were scheduled have called off classes.

Warming Centers remain open in the region including House of Hope in Branson along with First Assembly of God and First United Methodist Churches and the Ranch House Restaurant in Harrison due to the continuing cold weather.
