A Missouri Legislator has proposed a law to put the Ten Commandments in Missouri Schools.
The pre-filed bill submitted by Republican House Representative Hardy Billington of Poplar Bluff would amend state statutes to call for Missouri School Districts and Charter Schools to display the Ten Commandments. While Billington's bill would require the display in the school buildings and classroom, the proposal would allow each district or charter school board some flexibility on the nature of the display and the option to finance it through public funds and/or private donations.
If the law is successfully passed as filed, it would go into effect on January 1, 2026.
