SIOUX CITY, Iowa (KCAU) — Palmer Candy is expanding a recall of “white confectionary products” it issued earlier in May to include more items and best-by dates.
Palmer Candy announced Friday that its Patriotic White Fudge Cookies (13.5 oz) and Drizzled Caramel Corn (5 oz. and 12 oz) were also being recalled due to potential salmonella contamination. More best-by dates were also added for six additional products.
A variety of confections were originally recalled due to a salmonella risk. According to the FDA, people infected with salmonella can experience fever, diarrhea, nausea, vomiting, and abdominal pain. In rare instances, salmonella infection can result in bloodstream contamination — producing more severe illnesses, including arterial infections (i.e., infected aneurysms), endocarditis, and arthritis.
