The Missouri State Highway Patrol works a pair of accidents on Lakes Area Rivers including one fatality accident.
The fatality took place on the North Fork of the White River near Dawt Mill Bridge in Ozark County Saturday afternoon around 1:30 when 63-year-old Julia Monroe of Mountain Home went underwater after trying to get off of an innertube and never resurfaced. The MSHP Report indicates a nearby swimmer later found the body. This is the third drowning worked by Troop G of the Missouri State Highway Patrol in 2024.
Meanwhile, a man from Joplin sustains serious injuries while kayaking on the James River in Stone County. The MSHP Report indicates the accident occurred one mile north of Galena when 72-year-old Thomas Forehand got pinned under a log after being ejected from his kayak. Forehand was taken to Cox South Hospital in Springfield for treatment of his injuries.
