Northark Accounting Certificate Ranked #1 in the Nation

Laurie Graham, an online student from Colorado traveled to Harrison to accept her accounting degree in-person during NAC’s 2021 commencement ceremony held on May 8, 2021. Laurie was asked to stand and be recognized for t ranks NAC one year online accounting certificate as best in the nation.

According to a press release North Arkansas College (NAC) was notified its 30-credit, one year online accounting certificate has been ranked #1 in the nation according to a new list published by

College President Rick Massengale said awareness of the value of a NAC education is growing. “We had a woman from Colorado enroll in the accounting program last year who completed it in two semesters and flew in for graduation last May. This is one of our Career in a Year programs that fulfills our Mission to provide a high-quality education at an affordable price and because it’s online it is available to anyone, anywhere.”

Chris Lafata, dean of Art, Science, Business, and Information Technology says learning practical applications is a key component. “I attribute much of the success to our faculty that have both academic credentials and real-world experience, Assignments and course discussions aren't just based on vague concepts out of a book. They're based on situations students will encounter on the job. The students gain confidence knowing they can not only succeed in the classroom but also in the workplace.”

According to their website ZDNet identifies programs and schools with proven track records in serving students, learners, and certificate-earners using data from the National Center for Education Statistics (NCES) annual survey. Their formula uses info from the Integrated Postsecondary Education Data System (IPEDS) weighing factors from academics, reputation, affordability, and programmatic excellence. 


The top five of the 25 institutions ranked were:

1. North Arkansas College, Harrison, Arkansas

2. Kaskaskia College in Centralia, Illinois

3. Leeward Community College, Pearl City, Hawaii

4. Yavapai College, Prescott, Arizona

5. Southeastern Community College, West Burlington, Iowa
