A man is in the Greene County Jail in Springfield awaiting extradition to Arkansas on charges of Second-Degree Sexual Assault.
According to the probable cause affidavit filed by the Arkansas State Police in Newton County Circuit Court, 42-year-old Jared Ross Vandyne of Springfield is facing the charges after he allegedly had inappropriate sexual contact with an eight-year-old family member at a cabin in Compton. The case was initially investigated by the Newton County Sheriff's office with reports then turned over to the ASP. During interviews with Vandyne, he admitted to being inebriated and to "sleep-walking" into the victim's room where the incident occurred. The victim also gave similar statements leading to Vandyne's arrest.
Vandyne is currently being held without bond in the Greene County Jail awaiting extradition to Arkansas, where he will be held in the Newton County Jail in Jasper on a $100,000 bond.
