A new Crime Podcast series produced by Ozarks First highlights the murder of Missouri State Trooper Jimmie Linegar that took place in southern Taney County 36 years ago.

The shooting took place at the intersection of Highways 65 and 86 south of Hollister in the Spring of 1985 where Troopers Jimmie Linegar and Allen Hines were conducting a spot check of vehicles looking for violations and pulled over a van that was driven by a person later discovered to be David Tate who was wanted on a Federal Weapons charge. After Linegar asked Tate to get out of the vehicle, Tate shot Linegar 11 times and Hines three times before fleeing. Linegar died later at Skaggs Memorial Hospital, now Cox Medical Center Branson.

After a six-day manhunt, Tate was captured near Shadow Rock Park in Forsyth and later tried and sentenced to life in prison.

The podcast features archive interviews and reporting of the shooting, manhunt, funeral service for Linegar, and the trial.

Other crimes featured on the podcast so far include the murder of Jackie Johns in Nixa that also took place in 1985 and the killing of the family of Jon Feeney in 1995, for which he was charged and later acquitted of committing.
