Recent rainfalls in the Ozarks have impacted the Finley River in Christian County.
The full release below is from the City of Ozark:
The City of Ozark is advising all residents and visitors to avoid swimming, wading, tubing, kayaking, or participating in any other activity in the Finley River until further notice.
Recent water quality testing conducted by the Christian County Health Department shows extremely high levels of E. coli bacteria in the river due to recent storms and flooding. Test results indicate E. coli concentrations greater than 2,419.6 Colony-Forming Units (CFU) per 100 milliliters of water, nearly 10 times higher than the recommended single-sample recreational water quality standard of 235 CFU/100 mL.
These elevated levels may increase the risk of illness, including stomach cramps, nausea, vomiting, other gastrointestinal symptoms, and skin, eye, ear, and throat irritation, for anyone who comes into contact with the water.
Residents are encouraged to avoid contact with the water, keep pets out of the water, and monitor local announcements for updated testing results and advisories.
We appreciate the public’s cooperation while this advisory remains in effect.
