MO Rep. Brian Seitz Wants to Empower Child Sex Abuse Survivors With More Time to Pursue Justice

A bill that would empower child sex abuse survivors died in the state senate two years ago but will have another shot, according to Missouri House Representative Brian Seitz.

Seitz said that during Tuesday night's Branson aldermen meeting. The Civil Actions Involving the Statute of Limitations for Childhood Sexual Abuse Survivors would expand the statute of limitations.

The representative said that would grant adults who were abused as children 10 more years to pursue justice against their abuser. He went on to explain that the bill had bipartisan support two years ago.

At the time, it passed 152 to 0 in the Missouri House of Representatives. "It died in the senate," Seitz said.

He revealed why that transpired. "Why? Very powerful lobby groups in Jefferson City thought they might have to payout to some of these survivors," he said.
