Missouri’s Lieutenant Governor David Wasinger paid a visit to the region on Wednesday, Oct. 1, to learn more about fish management by the Missouri Department of Conservation through a stop at the Shepherd of the Hills Fish Hatchery.
Wasinger was shown the facility and taught about the challenges staff faces in keeping Missouri’s lakes and rivers stocked for fishermen. He said Missourians need to remember the impact of outdoor activities like fishing for the state’s tourism related economy.
“This is important to the state,” he told Branson Tri-Lakes News. “We’ve got a local representative, Brian Seitz, who serves on the Tourism Commission with me, and we both know having a destination fishing spot like this brings folks from Arkansas, Oklahoma, frankly, probably from all over the country to come here and fish here. So this does a lot of good for Missouri as a whole, and brings in great tourism.”
