Missouri House Resolution Passes on Proposed Initiative Rule Changes

The Missouri House of Representatives adopted a resolution Wednesday that would increase the threshold of votes from Missouri citizens to approve a ballot initiative.

The bill would increase the required percentage of votes to 60% from the current 50% according to a report from the Missouri News Network.
The resolution sparked debate about how language regarding voter citizenship should be included. An amendment was proposed to remove the language, but it was defeated.

If approved by the Senate, Missourians would vote to adopt or reject this resolution in November 2024.
