NORTH KANSAS CITY, Mo. – Filling up in Missouri for your Fourth of July plans? You may want to save those receipts, as the window just opened up to apply for a refund on the tax you pay for gas.
In 2021, Missouri launched an escalating fuel tax designed to generate up to $1.8 billion to use for road repairs. It started at 17 cents per gallon and reached its max on July 1 of 29.5 cents per gallon.
They also started a program where you could get the entire new tax refunded, starting with 2.5 cents per gallon refunded in 2022 up to 12.5 cents per gallon for gasoline purchased after July 1, 2025.
