A man speeding on a Lakes Region road is later identified as a member of a Mexican Cartel.
According to a release from Carroll County Sheriff Daniel Klatt, on August 16 an officer observed a vehicle traveling 74 MPH in a posted 60 MPH zone on Highway 62. A traffic stop was conducted, and the driver was identified as Louis Fernando Reyes Vieyra, also known as Louis Reyes.
During the stop, Vieyra was unable to provide any form of identification, and initial attempts to verify his identity were unsuccessful. Vieyra was subsequently transported to the Carroll County Detention Center, where his identity was positively confirmed.
A subsequent investigation revealed that Vieyra is a known member of the Jalisco New Generation Cartel. The investigation further indicated that Vieyra was identified as a known terrorist and had multiple Interpol notices related to several murder investigations in Mexico.
Vieyra was cited for speeding and driving without a valid driver's license and was remanded to the Carroll County Detention Center. The remaining occupants of the vehicle were released at the scene. Vieyra was later transferred to federal custody.
