Harrison Chamber Votes to Support Three Ballot Issues in November

The Harrison Chamber of Commerce will support three issues that voters will see on the November Ballot.

Chamber President Jeff Nielson, during a recent visit to KHOZ's "Around the Table" program, said that the Chamber Board voted to endorse the three issues, one at each level of government.

Arkansas Issue 3 is a proposed constitutional amendment in Arkansas that would allow cities to create development districts, similar to those used in neighboring states. Nielson said Arkansas is one of two states that does not allow cities to use the economic development tools for retail. Nielson said this could help both cities and counties offer tax incentives. Nielson said the Branson Landing is an example of a development that was pushed forward with the help of tax incentives.

Nielson added the chamber is also supporting the renewal of the Boone County Jail Tax as well as the City of Harrison Sales Tax for Fire and Police. Nielson noted that the city issue, that had been passed three times before failing in the March Election, said he felt confusion on the ballot language led to voters questioning on what they were voting on.

Nielson also talked about the several other events, including ones that have taken place since his appearance last Friday, the opening of the downtown bridge and T. J. Maxx as well as Breakfast with the Fed which featured information on the current state of the Federal Reserve and the impact on the economy nationally as well as in Arkansas.
