Governor Asa Hutchinson gives farewell address to Arkansas

“To paraphrase what Former President Ronald Raegan said as he left office, we have made a difference. We worked together and we made Arkansas stronger, freer, and with more hope for the future. All-in-all not bad, not bad at all.” – Asa Hutchinson

Governor Hutchinson was barred by term limits from seeking another term in office. Today Governor-Elect Sarah Huckabee Sanders will take the oath of office and be sworn in as the Arkansas's 47th governor.

In his speech Hutchinson said that being elected two times to the officer of governor has been the highest honor of his public life.

"We have accomplished a lot," Hutchinson said, "from record tax cuts, to increasing teacher pay, protecting our Natural State, reducing the size of state government, creating budget surpluses and reserves of over two billion dollars."

He said that Arkansas is a leader in computer science education and he touted the fact that Arkansas Schools and businesses remained open during the pandemic saying, "that's a record that sets Arkansas apart."
