Government Issues Alert on Raw Beef Possibly Contaminated

The U.S. Department of Agriculture's Food Safety and Inspection Service (FSIS) has issued a public health alert regarding a raw beef product that may contain soft, clear plastic. T

The product in question is approximately 1.5-lb. plastic tray packages containing "USDA CHOICE BLACK ANGUS BEEF FROM ALDI, BEEF FOR CARNE PICADA," with a "Use or Freeze by" date of Aug. 22, 2023. The product was produced on July 25, 2023.

The establishment that produced the product notified FSIS after receiving a complaint from a retail store about the presence of soft, clear plastic in the product. There have been no confirmed reports of injury or illness associated with the consumption of this product.

Although a recall was not requested because the product is no longer available for purchase, FSIS is issuing this public health alert to ensure awareness among consumers. Anyone who has purchased this product is advised not to consume it and should either throw it away or return it to the place of purchase. Consumers with questions can contact Cargill, the company responsible for the product, at 844-419-1574.
