Galena Man Charged in Animal Cruelty Investigation UPDATE

Charges have been filed in the investigation of a large number of animals being abused on a property in Stone County.

UPDATE
The Stone County Sheriff's Department reports a second arrest in the case. According to an updated Facebook Post, members of the Greene County Fugitive Task Force located and arrested Jessica Jean Johnson in Greene County.  Johnson is facing the same 29 counts of animal abuse as the other owner of the property John Maxwell Griffiths.

According to the Branson Tri-Lakes News, John Maxwell Griffiths has been charged with 29 counts of animal abuse though Stone County Prosecutor Wes Weber tells the Branson Tri-Lakes News the investigation is ongoing so charges could change when the investigation is complete. Weber is asking anyone with information on this case to contact the Stone County Sheriff's Office.

According to a post on the Sheriff's Department's Facebook page, a deputy responded to the report on a property off of Camp Clark Hill Road last Friday. The deputy found over 50 dogs in pens or tied to trees in the very cold conditions, many with little or no food and water available. Other animals were found to be deceased. The surviving dogs were taken by the Missouri State Humane Society Animal Abuse Task Force to St Louis for treatment.

Griffiths was released from the Stone County Jail on a $15,000 Bond.
