Freezing Rain Forecast for Monday Morning UPDATE 10:00 PM

National Weather Service Forecasters continue to update information on potential freezing rain in the region for Monday.

Sunday 10 PM Update
The National Weather Service has issued an Ice Storm Warning for several Missouri Counties including Christian and Douglas. Ice accumulations of over a quarter if an inch are possible in areas around Nixa, Ozark, and Ava. The Winter Weather Advisories remain in effect for the Branson and Harrison areas of the Lakes Region including Barry, Stone, Taney, and Ozark Counties in Missouri along with Boone, Carroll, Marion and Searcy Counties in Arkansas. Madison and Newton Counties remain under an Ice Storm Warning. 

Sunday 5 PM Update
The National Weather Service now has Winter Weather Advisories posted for the majority of the area with Madison and Newton Counties and other areas southwest of Harrison are under an Ice Storm Warning. Updated information indicates some areas of sleet may be mixed with freezing rain prior to midnight before precipitation transitions to all freezing rain. A tenth to a third of an inch of ice accumulations are possible prior to the precipitation becoming all rain Monday afternoon.  

Sunday 11:00 AM Update
The National Weather Service has issued an Ice Storm Warning for Newton County from 10:00 tonight until 3:00 Monday afternoon. Ice accumulations of one quarter to one half inch expected with Wind Gusts of 30 MPH possible.

Sunday Early Morning Update
The National Weather Service has issued a Winter Weather Advisory for all of the Missouri and most of the Arkansas Lakes Region. Arkansas goes under the advisory at 10:00 tonight while Missouri goes under the advisory from midnight to 3:00 pm Monday. Ice accumulations forecast remain in the tenth to quarter inch range for the region.

Meanwhile, Carroll and Madison counties in Arkansas are under a Winter Storm Watch beginning at 6:00 this evening and going until 3:00 Monday afternoon. Ice accumulations could exceed a quarter of an inch in those areas according to forecasters. 

Original Story
Currently, the rain is forecast to begin during the early morning hours and continue through most of the morning until transitioning to all rain in the afternoon. 

Area wide, the potential of up to a tenth of an inch of ice is possible with the greatest impacts forecast to be east of Highway 65 in Missouri covering most of Taney County from the Branson/Hollister area east into all of Douglas and Ozark Counties including areas around Ava and Gainesville. 

Travel impacts are expected with slippery road conditions possible during the Monday morning commute. 

The precipitation will transition to all rain Monday afternoon after temperatures rise above the freezing mark. A shift in the jet stream will take the Lakes Region out of the trail of Artic Air with both daytime and nighttime temperatures staying above freezing most of the week.
