Four Minor Earthquakes Reported Sunday Near Arkansas-Missouri Boarder

Four minor earthquakes have again been reported in Marion County within a nine-hour period Sunday morning.

All four were located near the Missouri state line southeast of Peel, near Bull Shoals Lake, similar to where three quakes were recorded in a 12-hour period from Thursday afternoon to Friday morning. The area is about 23 miles east-northeast of Harrison.

According to the U.S. Geological Survey, the first earthquake was recorded at 3:07 with a magnitude 2.4. The second quake was at magnitude 2.3 and recorded at 4:12. Earthquake No. 3 occurred at 6:21 with a magnitude 2.2. The fourth earthquake was at 11:16 with a magnitude 1.7.

Experts say normally, earthquakes below magnitude 3 are rarely felt. However, smaller quakes from magnitude 2.0 and higher can be felt by humans if the quake is shallow (few kilometers only) and if they are very close to its epicenter and not disturbed by ambient factors such as noise, wind, vibrations of engines, traffic, etc.

Anyone who felt the earthquakes can let the Geological Survey know on its website.
