The city of Merriam Woods is under the spotlight after revelations an alderman moved $50,000 from a road fund into the general fund to pay bills for the city in September because the city was almost broke.
According to a report in the Branson Tri-Lakes News, the revelation the city had run out of money to pay bills in September came at the January 9th Board of Aldermen meeting when Alderman Terri Connor said she had moved funds because the city had run out of money in other funds.
City Clerk Edie Rownd then explained to residents the city had a road fund and a road tax fund, and the two were not the same. The money transferred to the general fund by Connor came from the road fund, and a total overall of $70,000 has been transferred out of that fund but not out of the road tax fund which is not permitted based on the language of the ballot issue passed several years ago.
