As September begins, the Ozarks will once again bake in a prolonged heatwave.

According to the National Weather Service, temperatures could get to around 100 degrees as early as tomorrow in southern Missouri while temperatures will be slightly cooler in northern Arkansas, though the temperature is expected to get into the upper 90s during the week.

Little to any any is in the forecast over the next seven days in the Lakes Region.

With hot conditions returning, the National Weather Service and health officials continue to recommend the following precautions:

Drink plenty of water throughout the day, even if you do not feel thirsty.
Avoid strenuous outdoor activity during the hottest part of the day, typically between 10 a.m. and 4 p.m.
Wear lightweight, light-colored, and loose-fitting clothing.
Take frequent breaks in air-conditioned buildings or shaded areas.
Never leave children, older adults, or pets unattended in a vehicle.
Check on elderly neighbors, relatives, and others who may be vulnerable to extreme heat.
Wear sunscreen and a hat when spending time outdoors.
Know the signs of heat-related illness, including dizziness, nausea, headache, confusion, and excessive sweating.
When to Seek Help

Officials also remind people of the dangers of heat stroke with the symptoms including a body temperature above 103 degrees, hot, red, or dry skin,
confusion or loss of consciousness, and seizures.

Heat stroke is a medical emergency and can be life-threatening if not treated quickly.
