Drug Take Back Event Weekend

The second of two national Drug Take Back events are coming up this weekend.

The federal Drug Enforcement Agency promotes events around the country which are spearheaded by local organizations.

In the Lakes Region, events are being organized by two groups.

Taney County ADAPT will conduct three drop-offs on Saturday from 10:00 am to 2:00 pm at Walgreen Pharmacies in both Branson and Hollister as well as Lakeland Pharmacy in Branson. During a recent visit to KRZK's Ozarks Now Program, ADAPT co-chairs Heather Lyons Burney and Marietta Hagan talked about the dangers of keeping unused prescription medications in the house and the possibility of them being used by accident or stolen for illegal use. They also discussed the dangers to the environment if drugs are not disposed of properly.

Meanwhile, Kyle Evatt and Kelly Light of the North Arkansas Partnership for Health Education, during an interview earlier this month on KHOZ's "Around the Table" talked about the event taking place at Harrison City Hall this Saturday from 10:00 am to 2:00 pm.

It was mentioned during both interviews that many pharmacies and law enforcement buildings have drop-off locations available every day, some are available 24 hours a day. They say this event is designed to bring awareness to the importance of disposing of unused prescription medications.

The interviews with more information can be found on the Ozarks Now Facebook Page and on the Around the Table Facebook Page.
