The rainfall over the last several months has effectively eliminated drought conditions in the Lakes Region, though some nearby areas are still far from being out of the woods due to lack of precipitation.
According to the latest map from the U.S. Drought Monitor, the only part of the Ozarks sill in any sort of drought is in areas between Joplin and Nevada in far western Missouri. Except for parts of the north central region of the state, the rest of Missouri and all of Arkansas are no longer under drought conditions.
Areas just to the west of the region though still have significant problems as much of southern Kansas and parts of northern Oklahoma are still at an Exceptional Drought level. That area of the country is the highest level of drought currently, even higher than the area of the Colorado River around the Hoover Dam in areas of Nevada and Arizona which has seen increased rainfall in recent weeks.
