The latest map from the U.S. Drought Monitor shows a major difference between the Missouri and Arkansas Lakes Region.
In southern Missouri, drought levels remain at the two lowest levels, Abnormally Dry or Moderate Level.
That is not the case in northern Arkansas however, as drought areas have expanded with Carroll and Madison Counties at a Severe Level, most of Boone and Newton Counties at a Extreme Level with eastern parts of Marion and Searcy Counties at an Exceptional Level, the highest rated by the drought monitor. Characteristics of this level drought include very low water levels and major disruption of crops and foliage.
Rain is in the forecast for most of the Lake Region today into Saturday.
