One of Branson's most iconic attractions is celebrating its 65th Anniversary.
Dick's 5 & 10 opened for the first time on Commercial Street on July 14, 1961, initially focusing on paint and wallpaper but eventually transitioning into its current operation which included a move to its current Main Street location in 1972.
Steve Hartley, the son of founders Dick and June Hartley, has operated the store since Dick's death in 2006. He talked about the legacy the business has established during a recent interview on KRZK's "Ozarks Now" program and that maintaining the store's nostalgic feel has been the biggest factor in keeping the store running and being one of Branson's major attractions.
Hartley added that the store will continue to hold weekly drawings for $100 Shopping Sprees on Mondays until the end of the month.
The complete interview with Steve Hartley from "Ozarks Now" can be found below plus a full release from the Branson Lakes Area Chamber of Commerce/CVB:
Founded in 1961 by Dick and June Hartley, Dick's 5 & 10 began as a humble 1,500-square-foot store built on a simple but ambitious philosophy: no other store would be as well stocked. Their vision quickly transformed the store into a must-visit destination, delighting customers with an incredible variety of merchandise and old-fashioned customer service.
Today, the Hartley family's second generation continues that legacy, operating a 10,000-square-foot store filled with more than 250,000 unique items. While the store has grown tremendously over the years, its mission remains firmly rooted in the values established by its founders.
"Dick and June dreamed of creating more than just a store," said the Hartley family. "They wanted a place where every guest could discover something unexpected, feel genuinely welcomed, and leave with lasting memories. We're honored to continue that vision 65 years later."
Dick's 5 & 10 strives to create a one-of-a-kind experience rooted in honoring the Lord, guided by a cheerful, grateful, and helpful family of employees, and driven by a diverse, ever-changing selection of merchandise that is fun for all ages and sparks guests' anticipation of an adventure around every corner.
Over the past six and a half decades, millions of visitors have made Dick's 5 & 10 part of their Branson tradition. Whether searching for toys, classic candy, collectibles, gifts, kitchen essentials, souvenirs, or unique treasures, guests continue to find something fun from the nostalgic to what is currently trending with every visit.
As Dick's 5 & 10 celebrates this milestone anniversary, the Hartley family extends its heartfelt gratitude to the loyal customers, dedicated employees, and Branson community who have made the journey possible.
After 65 years, one thing remains true: no trip to Branson is complete without the Dick's 5 & 10 experience. Visit www.dicks5and10.com for more information.
