Casting Call: New Harrison Theatre Director Casting Show

Leslie Austin is a new theatre director in Harrison looking for a great cast for an upcoming production.

Austin appeared on KHOZ's "Around The Table" to discuss theatre and her "All I Really Need To Know I Learned in Kindergarten" auditions. Auditions are on Jan. 20 and Jan 21 at 2 p.m. The director said performers shouldn't expect to take the whole day to go through the tryout but an hour to an hour and a half. She can cast as many or as few actors as she needs; she noted that the Broadway version had five performers, but she wants to have more.

The comedy play is based on Robert Fulghum's 1986 book. Austin said it's a story that explores the "journey of life." It spans the good and bad experiences of life; she added that it will be a "sweet and funny show." This isn't the director's first production.

Austin is a new director within Harrison's theatre scene. She and her husband moved to Harrison close to two years ago. She was a high school theatre teacher for 13 years and a patent paralegal for 11 years. Additionally, she worked as an actress and director in the Dallas Metroplex where she and her husband lived before coming to the area.

She did that for nearly 25 years. Austin said she "staged managed" performed in and directed over an estimated 200 productions. Anyone wanting to audition can register online.

Auditionees will receive a link to audition material, but Austin said that material isn't required to audition. Cold reading is allowed.

The full interview with Austin is on the "Around The Table" Facebook Page.
