Carole Baskin Big Cat Rescue to Merge with Turpentine Creek

Big Cat Rescue, the animal sanctuary featured in the Netflix series “Tiger King,” will merge with Turpentine Creek in Eureka Springs.

The full story below from KTLO:

Located in Tampa, Florida, the sanctuary has said it will transfer 35 big cats to the Arkansas organization, a reasoning includes the cost of maintaining the facility and attempts to pass a federal bill, “Even with the skeleton staff we have operated with since COVID forced us to reduce staff by 50%, the overhead runs over $1.5 million per year.”

According to a release from the Florida sanctuary, the animals to be moved include tigers, bobcats and lynx.

The release also states Turpentine Creek sits on 450 rural acres and is roughly seven times bigger than the size of Big Cat Rescue.

Construction on the new enclosures at Turpentine Creek has begun and is expected to take around six months. The company will begin moving some cats over possibly as soon as July 2023.

Turpentine Creek is open to the public for hourly tours between 9 a.m. and 5 p.m.
