The City of Branson has given initial approval to a Change in the Alcohol Code.
The measure considered by the Board of Aldermen at last Tuesday's meeting would lift a city restriction and allow certain type of alcoholic beverages could only be served in other businesses besides restaurants, resorts, and microbreweries.
The measure was suggested by Ward 1 Aldermen Clay Cooper after he was approached by an area businessperson about looking to revise it. During the discussion, City Attorney Chris Lebeck said that this measure would still not allow tavern type businesses in the city but would allow other businesses the opportunity to add serving alcohol to their primary services. Businesses wishing to do that would still have to go through both a state and city license application process in order to proceed.
The vote was 5-1 with Aldermen Ruth Denham voting against the measure. The Bill will be up for second approval at the next Branson Board of Aldermen meeting August 10.
