An assault on two women that occurred in 1992 has led to an arrest over 30 years later.

According to a release from the Missouri State Highway Patrol, 61-year-old Tony Lee Wagner of Fort Scott, Kansas has been charged with assaulting two women in the Henning State Park near Branson in August of 1992.

The press release recounts the case of the women who were approached by an unknown male who started to assault both women. One escaped and sought help and eventually the second women was found but the assailant had escaped. Both the patrol and Taney County Sheriff's office investigated but they were unable to identify a suspect and the case went cold.

In the years since the assault, advancements in forensic science aided in the investigation and led to Wagner being identified as the suspect. Wagner was arrested by the Fort Scott Police Department this past week on two counts of first degree assault as well as on kidnapping and rape charges issued by the Taney County Prosecutor's Office. Wagner is being held without bond in the Bourbon County Jail awaiting extradition to Taney County.
