Arkansas Police Officers of the Year Honored

Arkansas's Attorney General hosts an annual ceremony honoring the top law enforcement officers in the state.

Tim Griffin honored law enforcement officers last week from across Arkansas at the 2023 Officer of the Year Awards luncheon.

Griffin issued the following statement on a press release following the luncheon:

“The Officer of the Year Awards honor the bravery, service and unwavering commitment to others that law enforcement officers provide Arkansans every day through their noble and often thankless work."

The top statewide honor for 2023 went to officers nominated from the northwest division, Arkansas State Police Special Agent Matt Foster and Senior Corporal David Smothers. According to the release, Foster and Smothers were responsible this year for saving a victim of human trafficking and bringing her trafficker to justice. 

Among officers honored from each county include Harrison Police Chief Chris Graddy representing Boone County. Graddy was recently recognized by the Harrison City Council for his selection for the award. 

Another area officer honored is Jasper Police Patrolman Shaun Wiseman representing Newton County. Wiseman also doubles as the Head Women's Tennis Coach at Arkansas Tech University in Russellville. According to a release from the school, Wiseman continues part-time duties as a Jasper Police Officer in addition to his coaching duties at his alma mater. 

Other officers in the region honored include:
Carroll County: Sergeant Cody Boren, Berryville Police Department
Madison County: Sergeant Stephen Brown, Madison County Sheriff’s Office
Marion County: Patrol Corporal Justin Martin, Flippin Police Department
Searcy County: Patrol Deputy Caleb Horn, Searcy County Sheriff’s Office
