Missouri Governor Mike Parson announces the replacement for Eric Schmidt in the Attorney General’s office for 2023.

Andrew Bailey currently serves as the general counsel to the Governor’s Office and has also served in the past as a prosecutor.
The appointment comes after Schmidt won the U.S. Senate Seat being vacated by the retirement of Roy Blunt. Baily will take over the Attorney General’s office in January.

This is the second time Parson has appointed an Attorney General. In a similar situation in 2018, Schmidt was appointed to replace Josh Hawley who also had been elected to the U.S. Senate. Schmidt had previously been State Treasurer and was succeeded there by Scott Fitzpatrick.

Parson will now also have to replace Fitzpatrick in the Treasurer’s office as he won the election to replace Nicole Galloway as State Auditor after she decided not to run for another term in that office.
