Paul Dean Hughes

Paul Dean Hughes, age 89, of Neosho, MO

Paul Dean Hughes, age 89, of Neosho, Missouri passed away Saturday, August 28, 2021 in Neosho, Missouri.

He was born October 23, 1931, in Fairview, Missouri the son of Sherman and Lola (Tichenor) Hughes.

He was a gentle soul and a regular “country boy” at heart.  He never met anyone he couldn’t talk to, he enjoyed sitting outside and visiting if the weather permitted, he could do it all day long.  He was never in a hurry, always taking his time, walking slow and driving slower.  He graduated from Wheaton High School where he loved playing basketball.  He went on to enlist in the Navy, where he served in the Korean War on the CA124 USS Rochester.  During his time in the Navy while working as a fireman he broke his leg and was sent to the Military hospital in Honolulu.  There he met Florence on a blind date and they have been married for 65 years.  He was fortunate to live in several states including California where his three children, Richard, Michael and Paula were born.  Then moving on to Kansas, Washington and Georgia where he worked in the aircraft industry before returning to his home state of Missouri that he loved.  In the late 70’s Paul and Florence bought a small farm in Rocky Comfort they called “The Seldom Rest Ranch” where all the kids and grandkids loved to go and enjoy their time with him and Grandma. He loved to give the grandkids rides on the tractor and the donkeys.  They lived there for many years before moving to Neosho, Missouri.  He loved to watch football, especially the Kansas City Chiefs (not the Denver Broncos) and also enjoyed car racing, old cars and rebuilt a tractor and a couple of old trucks in his younger days.  But most of all he loved his family and spending time with them. He’ll be missed by many.

He is survived by his wife, Florence Hughes.  Also surviving are one son, Mike Hughes and his wife Tena Hughes; one daughter, Paula Arguello and her husband Manny Arguello; one brother, Floyd Hughes of Wheaton, Missouri; nine grandchildren, Amanda Gallardo, Kristine Krivinsky, Korie Trask, Brad Lewis, Erin Schott, Stephanie Moen, Chris Arguello, Jennifer Arguello and Kimberly Arguello and twenty great grandchildren, Tyler, Grace, Faith, Caden, Anna, Kensie, Dominic, Connor, Kaleb, Katie, Maddi, Allison,  Natalia,  Anthony, Jason, Miley, Sydney, Analiz, Cardiel and Marcos.

Preceding him in death were his parents; one son, Richard Hughes and two brothers, Argyl and Manville Hughes.

Memorial services will be held at 11:00 A.M. Saturday, September 4, 2021 at McQueen Funeral Home in Wheaton, Missouri.

The family will receive friends from 10:00 until 11:00 A.M. Saturday at McQueen Funeral Home in Wheaton.
