Letha Alene Petty

Letha Alene Petty, age 91, of Washburn, Missouri

              Letha Alene Petty, age 91, of Washburn, passed away Thursday, December 15, 2022 at home.

            She was born August 25, 1931 in Lookeba, Oklahoma, the daughter of Herbert and Paula (Mencke) Opitz.   On February 24, 1950 in Pocahontas, Arkansas she was united in marriage to Johnnie Lee Petty who preceded her in death on September 24, 2001.  Also preceding her in death were her parents, one sister, Bernice Gettys, and one grandson, Steven Lee Petty.

            Surviving are three sons, Mike Petty and his wife Connie of Rogers, Arkansas, Martin Petty and his wife Rebecca of Jenks, Oklahoma, and Randy Petty and his wife Linda of Washburn, Missouri; six granddaughters, Christine West, Cathlene Petty, Michelle Sharp, Vanessa Fox, Amy Greek, and Kayla Holmes; twelve great grandchildren, Aleeya Standridge, Daishen Woods, Heavana Petty, Cooper Sharp, Josie Sharp, Rhiannon Fox, Major Fox, Sterling Fox, Tristan Greek, Jasmine Greek, Haven Holmes and Hazley Holmes and one sister-in-law, Loretta Jolly.

            Letha graduated from high school in Lookeba, Oklahoma in 1949 in a class of three.  In 1965 John and Letha moved their family from Tulsa, Oklahoma to Seligman, Missouri where they farmed and were known for the big garden that they raised. She was renowned for her skillet biscuits.  Letha loved the thrill of mushroom hunting.   She also loved to quilt, but what gave her the most pleasure was to spend time with her grandchildren and great grandchildren. She was a member of Corinth Baptist Church.

            Services will be held at 2:00 P.M. Tuesday, December 20, 2022 at Corinth Baptist Church in Cassville, under direction of Fohn Funeral Home in Cassville. Pastor Donnie Spears will conduct the services. Burial will be at King Cemetery in Seligman, Missouri.

            The family will receive friends from 1:00 P.M. until service time Tuesday at Corinth Baptist Church in Cassville.

            Contributions may be made to Corinth Baptist Church in memory of Letha.
