Joan Mabel Schoelzel, age 86, of Cassville, MO

Joan Mabel Schoelzel, age 86, of Cassville, Missouri passed away Friday, August 20, 2021 at her home.

She was born September 17, 1934 in Maywood, Illinois the daughter of Harry and Eleanor (Oetting) Christiansen.  On February 14, 1953 at Cross Lutheran Church in Burlington, Wisconsin she was united in marriage to Jerold Elroy “Jerry” Schoelzel who preceded her in death.  Also preceding her in death were her parents and one son, Justin “Dusty” Schoelzel.

Surviving are four sons, Jeffery Allen Schoelzel and Debbie Evans of Granby, Missouri, Jay Michael Schoelzel and Stacey Cochran of Cassville, Missouri, Jon Matthew Schoelzel and his wife Denise of Cassville, Missouri and James Patrick Schoelzel of Cassville, Missouri; four daughters, Janet Lee DeShazer and her husband Mark of Wheaton, Missouri, Jean Neal of Baxter Springs, Kansas, Judy Lynn Rodriguez and her husband Josẽ of Rocky Comfort, Missouri and Jerricay Dyer and her husband David of Butterfield, Missouri; twenty-two grandchildren; thirty-three great grandchildren and one great-great grandchild.

Joan grew up and received her education in Illinois and graduated from Rochester Agricultural High School in 1952.  After their marriage she and Jerry made their home in Illinois until 1977 when they moved to Cassville.  Joan worked at Sew It Seams and was a “master seamstress” who could sew anything and everything for family and friends.  Later she worked at Wal-Mart as the manager in the fabric department, retiring from there in 2010.  Some of her favorite pastimes were sewing, cooking, family and bluegrass music.  She was meant to be a grandma as there always seemed to be a baby in her arms.  She was a member of Holy Cross Lutheran Church in Cassville and over twenty years was a 4-H leader in Illinois.

Graveside services will be at 2:00 P.M. Thursday, August 26, 2021 at the family farm in Cassville, under direction of Fohn Funeral Home in Cassville.  Brother Gary Lester will conduct the services.
