Doyle Edward “Ed” Armstrong

Doyle Edward “Ed” Armstrong, 63 of Cassville, MO

Doyle Edward “Ed” Armstrong, age 63, of Cassville, Missouri passed away Wednesday, September 1, 2021 at Mercy Hospital Joplin in Joplin, Missouri.

He was born November 1, 1957 in Springfield, Missouri, the son of Franklin Pierce “Frank” and Mary Lou (Nelson) Armstrong.  Both parents preceded him in death in 2004.

He is survived by a daughter, Amber Mills and three grandchildren, Payton, Taylor and Kaden.

His early childhood was spent riding bicycles and playing baseball.  About fifty percent of his time was spent across the road at the Porter residence where there were always plenty of kids to play with.  Ed spent most of his life in and around the Washburn area, graduating from Southwest High School in 1977.  After graduation he worked several jobs including milking dairy cows, harvesting hay, building poultry houses and painting.  After moving to Texas, he worked at an oil refinery as a welder’s helper.  One of his bosses, Rick Hendrix said Ed worked several jobs for him and was a hard worker.  The truck drivers loved to deliver to Rick’s job sites because Ed kept them so clean.  His favorite line of work was carpentry but due to accidents which left his hands crippled he could no longer pursue this occupation.  In 2009 he entered Freedom Dream Center in Aurora, Missouri where he accepted Jesus as his Savior and was a strong believer.  Ed was a man with a heart of gold.  He would literally give you his last dime, knowing he would go hungry.  He liked having a good time and could see humor in almost everything.  His quick wit and hilarious one liners were what made up his unique personality.  He will be greatly missed.

Memorial services will be held at 12:00 P.M. Saturday, September 11, 2021, at Washburn Prairie Cemetery in Washburn.  Rick Hendrix will conduct the services.  Cremation arrangements are under direction of Fohn Funeral Home in Cassville.
