Arthur “Gene” Eugene Atwood

Arthur “Gene” Eugene Atwood, age 90, of Forsyth

Arthur “Gene” Eugene Atwood, age 90, of Forsyth, Missouri, passed away on July 26, 2026. He entered this life on August 28, 1935, the son of Gilbert and Charlene (Hunt) Atwood in Wellington, Kansas. Gene was united in marriage to Ruby Atwood, who sadly passed away December 17, 2024. He is also preceded in death by his parents; sons: James Atwood, Terry Atwood; daughter, Vickie Smith; and granddaughter, Misty Atwood.

Gene and Ruby owned an automotive inventory business for many years. In the early 1990s, they retired to the Ozarks and owned Captain Ed’s Antique Mall in Rockaway Beach for many years. He found happiness in spending time outdoors with a fishing rod in hand, always eager for the next cast and the peace that came with being on the water. Whether fishing himself or watching and attending Bass Pro tournaments, Arthur had a deep admiration for the sport and the patience, skill, and dedication it required. An avid reader, Arthur could often be found with a good book, enjoying the opportunity to learn something new or become immersed in a great story. His love of reading reflected his curious mind and thoughtful nature. Arthur's greatest legacy is the memories he created with those who knew and loved him. His gentle spirit, quiet wisdom, and genuine kindness touched the lives of family, friends, and everyone fortunate enough to know him.

Gene is survived by sons, Michael McGuire of Forsyth, Missouri, and Richard Atwood of Tennessee; grandchildren: Michael Ray and wife, Sarah Hall-McGuire, Tina Wulff, and Chris Smith; along with many more grandchildren and several great-grandchildren, great-great grandchildren and other extended family members. He is also survived by his sisters, Pat (Bob) Brill of Udall, Kansas, and Anita (Rob) Hall of Oxnard, California.
