Ozark Teen Pleads Guilty For Causing 2022 Overdose Death

A teenager from Ozark has pleads guilty after police say he sold fentanyl to a 16-year-old girl who overdosed and died in 2022.

Online court documents show that Jacob Sayre agreed to a plea agreement to first-degree involuntary manslaughter and delivery of a controlled substance. Sayre was originally charged with second-degree murder, first-degree endangering the welfare of a child and delivery of a controlled substance.

According to police, the victim was found dead in her bedroom in September 2022 with a credit card, a rolled-up $20 bill and a cut blue pill on her nightstand. An autopsy and toxicology report later showed the girl died from an overdose and had a lethal dose of fentanyl in her system.

Documents state Ozark police found Snapchat messages between then-17-year-old Sayre and the victim on her phone, where she had arranged to buy a “perc” pill, possibly referring to Percocet, a prescription opioid painkiller.

Sayre told investigators that he obtained a pill he believed to be “perc” from a friend in Springfield and then sold it to the victim, telling her in a Snapchat message to cut the pill into quarters. Documents state Sayre told police he knew the pill was some kind of drug, and advised her to cut it up so she would be safe.

The case was originally filed in juvenile court, but a judge ruled that Sayre should be charged as an adult.
