Flue Fire Warning

The post states that "Central firefighters responded to approximately 15 flue fires in the district." The post highlights signs of flue fires and provides tips to reduce the risk of such fires.

With colder temperatures moving in, it is time to talk flue fires. Last year, Central firefighters responded to approximately 15 flue fires in the district.

Signs of a flue fire include:

• Excessive Dense Smoke

• Intensely Hot or Burning Odor

• Loud Cracking and Popping Noises

• Flames seen from your external chimney

Follow these tips to help reduce the chances of having a flue fire.

• Use seasoned wood

• Build smaller, hotter fires that burn more completely and produce less smoke

• Never burn cardboard boxes, wrapping paper, trash, rubber, or Christmas trees.

• Do not start wood stove or fireplace fires with gasoline or other flammable materials.

• Have the chimney inspected and cleaned on an annual basis.

In the event you have a flue fire, evacuate your residence and call 911 immediately.
