BREAKING NEWS: Taney County to Request State Audit

A comprehensive state audit will be requested by the Taney County Commission.  Unanimous approval was given Tuesday to the proposal from Presiding Commissioner Ron Houseman, who says failure to implement the recommendations which followed the last comprehensive audit 10 years ago means another audit is needed to direct the county back to sound management practices…

Houseman estimates the audit would cost between 75-thousand and 125-thousand dollars.  He suggests going back three years.  Last month, Houseman said a call for a state audit was likely, following questions about tax disbursements to schools in Taney County.  In calling for the audit, Houseman also cited questions about expenditures throughout the county system, travel, purchasing and use of special funds.  Commissioners will work with County Auditor Rick Findley to formally submit the audit request.

The Taney County Commission will ask the Missouri State Auditor’s Office for a comprehensive audit.  Presiding Commissioner Ron Houseman says had the recommendations following an audit 10 years ago been implemented, many issues Taney Countyi s currently dealing with might have been avoided…

Houseman proposes the audit go back 3 years, looking not only at issues in the Collector’s office which resulted in tax disbursement errors to schools, but at the county as a whole.  He estimates the cost for the audit to run between 75-thousand and 125-thousand dollars, but says it would pay for itself over a short period of time.

Taney County Commissioners have unanimously approved requesting a comprehensive state audit.  Presiding Commissioner Ron Houseman proposed the idea, noting that the most recent state audit of Taney County was done 10 years ago, but saying that few of the resulting recommendations were implemented…

Last month, Houseman said a request for a state audit was likely, after questions arose surrounding tax disbursements to four Taney County schools by the Collector’s office.  Houseman recommends a comprehensive audit covering all phases of county operations, to go back 3 years.

If the recommendations from the last audit were never followed, what makes one think that the recommendations from this would have better results?

If the county would run their office's like they should be there wouldn't be a need for an audit. It is just another expense to the tax payer's that we DON'T need.Just BASIC book keeping is all it takes.

Houseman said: "failure to implement the recommendations which followed the last comprehensive audit 10 years ago means another audit is needed to direct the county back to sound management practices" If these people do not understand sound management practices by now they need to step down immediately. These people are not new to public office, especially the Presiding Commissioner. If they do not understand sound management practices after all these years, they need to go home immediately. Please someone needs to file against each of these people the next time their term is up. I'm "FED UP" with all of them. Anyone agree??

"...another audit is needed to bring the county back to sound management practices." Didn't the last audit address these issues with no apparent resolution? Who says this audit will provide any useful recommendations? And as Concerned Citizen notes, who says these recommendations will be followed? "...estimates the audit to cost between $75,000 and $125,000." This from an organization that can't afford to provide its employees with raises? Well, here's my contribution to the cost of the audit; my two cents. How about starting with the management practices that were recommended in the last audit and see how they can be adjusted to work today? Better yet, how about commissioners who want to look out for the best interests of the citizens instead of self-serving career politicians?

I thought that's why we have an elected county auditor, is he not doing his job????

Why would you spend money on an audit when the auditors did not catch the error on the last audit. Use that money to help pay for the error made by the State Computer programers.
