Arkansas Governor Mike Beebe says dozens of state employees could be laid off, if a Republican plan to cut 21-million dollars from the state budget is implemented.

The Democratic Governor detailed the impact the proposal from House Minority Leader John Burris of Harrison would have on services ranging from firefighting to the state crime lab.

Burris is calling for a 3 percent cut to 11 sections of the budget and is proposing a change in the way a 114-million dollar increase for Medicaid is funded.

The Governor’s 4-point-7 billion dollar budget proposal has stalled because of the GOP plan that was introduced.

Burris has said the impact from his proposed reductions is being exaggerated.
