Taney County Commissioners have voted to adopt the Floodplain Management Ordinance for 2012. Commissioners say some county residents were concerned when it appeared their properties were incorrectly shown as being in a flood plain on the new map. While the base flood elevations are unchanged from the previous map, a change in the way FEMA now measures the contour of the land altered some of the boundaries. Strafuss is speaking with Taney County Planning and Zoning administrator Bob Atchley. Atchley says back in 2010, property owners adjacent to a flood plain, as shown on the map at that time, were notified by postcard and invited to visit the planning department to see the new maps. Some property owners have gone through what’s called a LOMA process, or Letter of Map Amendment. Atchley says FEMA may now begin remapping counties every 2 or 3 years.
