Legislation Could Make it Easier to Evict Tenants

It could soon be easier for landlords to evict tenants for overdue rent under a proposal introduced in the Missouri Senate.

Senator Kevin Engler from Farmington wants to make it a crime for people to remain in rented homes for longer than ten days, if a court has told them to get out, because they haven’t paid their rent.

If approved by the state legislature, the new law would be a misdemeanor, punishable by up to 6 months in jail and a 5-hundred dollar fine.

If you’re a renter and a court has told you to get out because you are behind in your payments – a proposed Missouri law could put you behind bars if you stay longer than ten days after the notice.

The legislation introduced in the Missouri Senate would make the violation a misdemeanor, punishable by up to 6 months in jail and a 5-hundred dollar fine

GUESS THEY COULD LIVE IN JAIL FOR THE NEXT 6 MONTHS BUT WHERE WOULD THEY GET THE 500 DOLLARS! THIS IS ANOTHER OF THE INANE LAWS WE ARE ACCUMULATING!

How about 10 days after their rent is due? and leave the courts out. Evicting someone now is ridiculous. What about the landlords right to THEIR property? Let the landlord decide if the people deserve a chance or not. Some people have real legitimate problems paying and some people just use the system. Let the landlords decide who is who. It’s our property , there is a lease agreement, follow the lease or leave. If anyone reading this finds this heartless then maybe you can volunteer to pay peoples rent.

Better in jail than in my house for 6 months. Its about time that the landlords have as much rights as the BUMS. Thanks.

And if they get sent to jail, Taney charges $45 a day, so 6 months would be approx $8100? Totally agree with Landlord, the current laws are ridiculous.
