Funeral services have been announced for a Spokane basketball player who collapsed and died during an early morning practice this week.

The Christian County Coroner says 17 year old Forrest Varney died from complications from a previously unknown heart condition.

His funeral will be held at 1:30 Sunday at Spokane High School.  Burial will follow in Highlandville Cemetery.  Viewing will be held from 12:30 to 1:30 Sunday afternoon prior to the funeral service.

In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Forrest Varney Memorial Scholarship Fund, in care of Spokane High School.

Varney was a junior member of the high school basketball team.  School officials had called in grief counselors this week for students and staff.
