What does it take to be a teacher?  Student teachers looking for that first full-time job are hoping they have the necessary skills as they apply for positions for the next school year.  Hollister Assistant Superintendent Craig Carson says Hollister has 4 positions open for next year at the elementary school, with more than 100 applicants so far.  He says in addition to academic standards, the district looks at what are called “soft skills,” so after the initial interview, they put the teacher in the classroom…

Carson says Hollister looks for a teacher who loves children, and who thinks about the whole child, not just the academic side.  He says usually after observing 3 or 4 candidates, it’s easy to see which applicant is the best fit for the school district.  Those interviews begin next week.
